The course is designed to teach law enforcement officers that find themselves first on-scene, the skill of basic medical triage. It¿s common for patrol officers to arrive first to a multi vehicle car crash, a bus crash or a mass casualty incident. The several minutes that it takes for an EMS response (typically 9-10 minutes), can be utilized to sort the patients so that when EMS arrives, they can be directed to those in most need that are more likely to survive. Basic skills such as breathing assessment, pulse assessment and mental status assessment are taught, as these are the field diagnostics utilized for the initial assessment of a victim¿s medical condition. The intent for the course is to augment and supplement the EMS component as well as provides for initial scene organization. This course is Colorado POST approved for 4 hours credit.
